 Teacher of the Year

Meet your 2018-2019 Orange County Schools’ Teacher of the Year

Thirteen candidates were in the running for the 2018-2019 Orange County Schools’ Teacher of the Year after being nominated by their colleagues. After narrowing it down to the final three, the honor was awarded to New Hope Elementary School teacher Luis F. Rios on Thursday May 3rd 2018. Rios grew up in the North Carolina public school system and went on to get his Bachelor's in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill. Rios has been teaching English at New Hope Elementary School for the past 4 years.

“I am in awe and I am deeply honored to have been selected [as Teacher of the Year],” Rios said. “I am grateful that my parents had the opportunity to be there to share in the joy and excitement of that moment.

“I am grateful to the administrators that have mentored and encouraged me, especially Mr. Jeff Rachlin and Mrs. Leslie Bryant who were the principals that first hired me at New Hope,” he continued. “I am grateful that they saw my potential and supported me in developing it. I am grateful for Mrs. Ambra Wilson and Mrs. Maryellen Gollnick, my current principals, for their love, vision, and all the heart they put into the work they do. It’s inspiring.”

Capital Ford Hillsborough is proud to support our local community and offer a new Ford Escape to the teacher of the year each year! We are confident that Luis F. Rios will have a great school year in his new Ford Escape from Capital Ford of Hillsborough. Thank you Luis for all that you do to make our school system and community a the best it can be!
